When an emergency happens, every second counts. Whether you are at home, in the office, or out in the Albury Wodonga community, having the skills to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) can be the difference between a tragedy and a life saved. At Yatson Training, we specialise in delivering the HLTAID009 Provide CPR unit in a way that is engaging, practical, and easy to remember.

If you have been searching for a way to Learn CPR in Albury / Wodonga, you have come to the right place. Our courses are led by highly experienced staff, including our lead trainer Jackie Hislop, who is a Registered Nurse (RN). We don’t just teach you the steps; we give you the confidence to use them.

What is HLTAID009 Provide CPR all about?

HLTAID009 Provide CPR is the nationally recognised standard for CPR training in Australia. This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to perform CPR in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.

Essentially, this course teaches you how to maintain a person’s breathing and circulation when they have suffered a cardiac arrest. It is a standalone unit but is also a core component of the more comprehensive HLTAID011 Provide First Aid course. Because medical guidelines and techniques evolve, the ARC recommends that you refresh this specific certification every 12 months to ensure your skills remain sharp and effective.

The primary function of CPR is to manually pump blood to the brain and vital organs when the heart has stopped beating. During your training, you will learn how to:

  • Recognise an emergency situation.
  • Check for hazards (staying safe is the first priority).
  • Assess the casualty's conscious state.
  • Perform chest compressions and rescue breaths.
  • Operate an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Why Learn CPR in Albury / Wodonga?

Living and working in the Albury Wodonga region means being part of a vibrant, active community. From local sporting clubs to busy industrial sites and corporate offices, the need for trained first aiders is constant. Even if it isn't a requirement for your job, having a Workplace First Aid certification makes you a valuable asset to any team.

Practical, Hands-on Training with Jackie Hislop RN

One of the biggest complaints about first aid training is that it can feel like a "tick-a-box" exercise, dry, boring, and forgettable. We do things differently at Yatson Training.

Our lead trainer, Jackie Hislop, brings years of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse to every session. This means you aren't just learning from a manual; you are learning from someone who has used these life-saving skills in real-world medical environments. Jackie’s approach is interactive and supportive. She focuses on the "why" behind every action, which helps the information stick.

We prioritise hands-on practice. You will spend a significant portion of your class on the floor, working with high-quality adult and infant manikins. We believe that muscle memory is key to performing well under pressure. If you can do it correctly in the classroom, you are much more likely to do it correctly in a real emergency.

What to Expect in Your Session

When you walk into a Yatson Training room, expect to be active. Our HLTAID009 Provide CPR course covers the essential DRSABCD action plan.

The DRSABCD Process:

  • D – Danger: Check the area to ensure it is safe for you, bystanders, and the casualty.
  • R – Response: Check for a response by talking and touching (e.g., "squeeze my hand").
  • S – Send for help: Call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
  • A – Airway: Open the mouth and check for blockages. (Clear the airway if necessary).
  • B – Breathing: Look, listen, and feel for normal breathing.
  • C – CPR: Start chest compressions (30 compressions followed by 2 rescue breaths).
  • D – Defibrillation: Apply an AED as soon as one is available and follow the voice prompts.

During the assessment, you must demonstrate that you can perform at least two minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult manikin placed on the floor. This is a physical task that requires a certain level of fitness and the ability to kneel.

Keep in Mind / Our Recommendation

While CPR is a straightforward process, it is physically demanding. Here are our recommendations to ensure you get the most out of your training:

  • Wear Comfortable Clothing: You will be kneeling on the floor and moving around quite a bit. Wear trousers and flat, enclosed shoes.
  • Check Your Physical Ability: If you have back or knee issues that might prevent you from kneeling, please let us know before the course. We can discuss reasonable adjustments for the training, though the national assessment standard requires floor-based compressions for certification.
  • Refresh Annually: Even if your employer doesn't insist on it, we strongly recommend refreshing your CPR skills every 12 months. Techniques can be forgotten, and confidence fades over time.
  • Stay Calm: The most important thing in an emergency is to stay calm and follow the steps. Our training is designed to help you maintain focus when it matters most.

FAQs About HLTAID009 CPR Training

How long does the CPR certificate last?
The HLTAID009 Statement of Attainment is technically valid for three years, but the Australian Resuscitation Council and most workplace safety regulators require you to refresh the CPR component every 12 months.

Is there a lot of theory involved?
We focus on practical, hands-on learning. There is a theory component to ensure you understand the "why" and the legalities of first aid, but we keep it straightforward and relevant.

Do I need to do the full First Aid course?
If you only need CPR (often for annual workplace compliance), then HLTAID009 is perfect. If you need a more comprehensive certification that covers wounds, bites, stings, and medical emergencies, you should consider the HLTAID011 Provide First Aid course.

Can you train my staff at our office?
Yes! We specialise in Corporate First Aid training. We bring the classroom to you, saving you time and travel costs.

What if I am not very "tech-savvy"?
Don't worry. Our trainers are here to support you through every step of the process, from your initial inquiry to receiving your final certificate. We pride ourselves on being approachable and helpful.
