If your CPR certificate is due for renewal, this is a practical time to update your skills. Yatson Training is offering HLTAID009 Provide CPR training in the Albury Wodonga area during the week commencing 24 August 2026.

Whether you need CPR for work, study, childcare, sport, volunteering or personal confidence, our training is hands-on, supportive and focused on real skills. Book your place through the Yatson Training course page or telephone us on 0450 533 179.

What is HLTAID009 Provide CPR all about?

HLTAID009 Provide CPR is the nationally recognised unit that teaches you how to respond when a person is unconscious and not breathing normally.

CPR helps maintain blood flow to the brain and other vital organs until emergency medical services arrive. It does not replace professional medical care. It provides immediate assistance during the critical first minutes of a cardiac arrest.

The unit covers CPR procedures in line with current Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines. During your training, you will learn how to:

  • Recognise a cardiac arrest.
  • Check for danger and assess the person’s response.
  • Call Triple Zero (000).
  • Open and check the airway.
  • Identify normal and abnormal breathing.
  • Perform chest compressions.
  • Provide rescue breaths where appropriate.
  • Use an automated external defibrillator (AED).
  • Continue CPR until help arrives or the person shows signs of life.

HLTAID009 is often completed as a standalone CPR course. It is also included in broader training such as HLTAID011 Provide First Aid.

Learn with Jackie Hislop RN

Yatson Training’s lead trainer, Jackie Hislop, Registered Nurse (RN), brings clinical and aged care experience to each session.

Jackie has more than four years of experience as a Registered Nurse and seven years of experience as a personal carer in the aged care sector. Her background helps her explain not only what to do, but why each step matters.

The training is designed to be practical rather than a dry, mandatory exercise. You will practise on adult and infant manikins, work through realistic scenarios and receive feedback from an experienced trainer.

Expect to:

  • Practise chest compressions on the floor.
  • Work through the DRSABCD action plan.
  • Use an AED trainer.
  • Discuss common mistakes and how to avoid them.
  • Ask questions in a supportive learning environment.
  • Complete the required theory and practical assessment.

Practical repetition matters. It helps you build the movement patterns and decision-making skills needed during a stressful emergency.

What will you practise during HLTAID009?

Your trainer will guide you through the DRSABCD process:

  • Danger: Check the area. Protect yourself, bystanders and the casualty.
  • Response: Check whether the person responds to your voice or touch.
  • Send for help: Call 000 and ask someone to bring an AED.
  • Airway: Open the airway and check for an obstruction.
  • Breathing: Look, listen and feel for normal breathing.
  • CPR: Start chest compressions and provide rescue breaths as trained.
  • Defibrillation: Apply the AED as soon as it is available and follow its prompts.

During assessment, you will need to demonstrate the required CPR skills on a manikin. This includes performing continuous CPR on an adult manikin positioned on the floor. You should be prepared to kneel and perform compressions for the required assessment period.

The course is physically active. Tell Yatson Training before the session if you have a physical limitation, injury or concern that may affect your ability to kneel or perform compressions. Reasonable adjustments may be discussed, but the assessment requirements still apply.

Our recommendation before you attend

Prepare properly so you can focus on learning.

  • Wear comfortable clothing. Choose clothing that allows you to kneel and move freely.
  • Wear enclosed, flat shoes. You will be working around training equipment.
  • Bring your USI if required. Ask Yatson Training if you need help confirming your details.
  • Complete any pre-course learning. Finish required theory before your practical session.
  • Arrive ready to participate. CPR training involves practice, observation and assessment.
  • Ask questions. Speak up if you are unsure about a step.
  • Plan your next refresher. CPR skills are commonly refreshed every 12 months to support ongoing competence and workplace requirements.
